Isaac Tomás Esparza Briseño is a ceramist who works in barro bruñido (burnished clay). In 2023 the podcast Arsatenía called the studio Cinco Octavos his brand. Introducing a March 2023 podcast episode with him, Arsatenía wrote that his family works in burnished clay and that others work on the pieces beside him with the same dedication. In August 2022 Cinco Octavos wrote that it had spent six years making and selling ceramics and linocut prints. In 2023 the studio wrote that it fires its burnished pieces with wood for six to nine hours so that they can reach up to 800 degrees Celsius, and that it uses no chemicals of any kind in making them.
On November 11, 2022, Cinco Octavos wrote from the Casa de las Artesanías de Jalisco in Guadalajara that it had attended the Galardón Jalisco a la Artesanía 2022 ceremony and come back with the Galardón Joven Creador, which the state's call for entries set aside for the best work by an artisan under 30 at the time of judging. Arsatenía later wrote that he had been decorated with the Galardón al joven creador. The piece it presented, Nuevo comienzo, is in burnished clay; the studio described it as a great guardian carrying a small growing nahual that symbolizes the new beginning, with traditional symbols of the region's flora and fauna and the sun and moon. In the same post the studio wrote that the nahual, a figure from pre-Hispanic mythology, has been part of the Esparza family for three generations as “guardián de nuestro árbol genealógico” (guardian of our family tree).
In August 2024 Cinco Octavos was among 19 artisans in Artesanía Viva, a project run by the Casa de las Artesanías de Jalisco at Expo Mueble, where it exhibited a set in burnished clay. In February 2025 it presented its pieces at ENART, at the Centro Cultural El Refugio in Tlaquepaque. In 2026 the studio presented a collection joining basalt stone, clay and blown glass in May, and in September a limited edition made in collaboration with IGNEA, a brand that collaborates with makers in basalt stone.
