Nuevo comienzo

The figure is a nahual, and to Isaac Tomás Esparza Briseño it is more than a figure of myth: "El nahual mas allá de ser parte de la mitología prehispánica también ha formado parte de la familia Esparza por tres generaciones como guardián de nuestro árbol genealógico" (Beyond being part of pre-Hispanic mythology, the nahual has also been part of the Esparza family for three generations, as the guardian of our family tree). This great guardian carries a small nahual that is still growing, and that is the new beginning of the title: "el cuál simboliza el nuevo comienzo" (which symbolizes the new beginning).

He gave it traditional symbols of the flora and fauna of his region, and the sun and the moon.

Made in the traditional technique of barro bruñido (burnished clay), Nuevo comienzo (New Beginning) won the Galardón joven creador (young creator award) at the Galardón Jalisco a la artesanía 2022, presented at the Casa de las Artesanías de Jalisco in Guadalajara.
