Santos Motoapohua de la Torre (1942–)

Beads, beeswax and plywood · 15 × 15 cm

The back is inscribed and signed: "Diseño original hecho por Santos M. de la Torre de Santiago y familia" (Original design, made by Santos M. de la Torre de Santiago and family).

A star with flowers inside it is at the center. The Facebook page Orgullo Wixarika, which writes of the Wixárika as "nuestro pueblo" (our people), says of a beaded piece with a star at its center that the star is a "símbolo de guía y conexión espiritual" (symbol of guidance and spiritual connection) and that the flowers inside it "representan la energía del hikuri (peyote), la planta sagrada que permite la comunicación con los dioses y la sabiduría de los ancestros" (represent the energy of hikuri, peyote, the sacred plant that allows communication with the gods and the wisdom of the ancestors).

Triangles run along its border. The Wixárika Research Center writes of a 1977 beaded piece by the artist Yauxali that Our Elder Brother Tamatsi Kauyumarie, Deer of the Sun, "knows the paths to the peaks of the ancestors that are drawn around the world" along its edges "like triangles."
