Ramona Rocha

2025

Acrilico sobre tela · 100 × 80 cm

In January 2025 Ramona Rocha posted this painting on Instagram as Oxxo en construcción (Los 395 días del año) (OXXO Under Construction: The 395 Days of the Year) and wrote that it belongs to the series she made for her 2024 Jóvenes Creadores (Young Creators) project. KÖNIG GALERIE writes on its website that she worked in a convenience store for almost four years and has painted convenience-store employees.

In 2025 the painting was in Rituales mínimos: seis miradas duranguenses sobre lo cotidiano (Minimal Rituals: Six Durango Views of Everyday Life), a group show of six artists from Durango at Galería Enrique Guerrero in Mexico City. The exhibition text, which Rocha signed, says that she speaks from her experience of working in a convenience store, "una rutina aparentemente mecánica" (a seemingly mechanical routine).

Reviewing the show for Onda MX, an online guide to exhibitions with its own magazine, the writer Julián Madero Islas found tedium in her paintings, arising from the act of painting itself as it repeats the familiar details of a convenience store, and wrote: "El Durango de Rocha es una ciudad espectral teñida de melancolía" (Rocha's Durango is a spectral city tinged with melancholy).

Michelle Galaviz's Vivario Doméstico II: contemplar la vida (Domestic Vivarium II: Contemplating Life) hung in the same show.
