Marc Breslin (b. 1983) is a painter and writer, born in New York. He studied art history and literature at Boston College, graduating in 2005. After college he worked for the conceptual artist Jenny Holzer, and he began to paint there. In his account, she asked him to find the best way to make her paintings, and he eventually had to try the methods himself.
Galería Karen Huber in Mexico City, where his solo show Cindy, Carmine, George, Pierre and others ran from August to September 2017, describes paintings made with oil sticks rubbed into the surface of the canvas, leaving a very thin layer of oil. In 2026 the gallery described him as living and working in Mexico City.
His solo exhibitions include Casual Curses are the Most Effective at Scaramouche in New York (2011) and Piano Piano at Umberto Di Marino in Naples (2012), and in 2010 he was included in Gerhard Richter and the Disappearance of the Image in Contemporary Art at the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. Sticksville, his first collection of short stories (seven stories illustrated with 23 of his paintings), was published by Zolo Press in 2019. He has said he started the book after his studio in Los Angeles burned down, when a friend offered him his place in Mexico City. Personal Analysis, his solo show at Galería Karen Huber from November 2021 to January 2022, was described by the gallery as taking the viewer back to the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, five years after he visited it.
At Zona Maco 2023 in Mexico City, Galería Karen Huber showed his work in a group booth. In April 2023 VEILS, his first show with Anna Zorina Gallery in Los Angeles, hung featureless portraits drawn from Cycladic sculpture and a life-size version of Van Eyck's Arnolfinis with the couple in chrome masks. From June 4 to August 15, 2026 Galería Karen Huber presented ’till the cows come home, a solo exhibition for which he wrote the text himself: "Since the beginning of my artistic production I have employed the camera as a tool to assist my painting practice. I do not consider myself a photographer." During the ZⓈONAMACO 2026 Circuitos program he took part in a conversation about the exhibition.
