Paisaje en niebla

Jesús Alberto Cataño Gamboa (1979–)

2026

Oleo / madera · 35 × 55 cm

Jesús Cataño is a painter from Apartadó, in Colombia's Urabá region. When Paisaje en niebla (Landscape in fog) hung at ARTBO, the Bogotá art fair, in September 2026, Enilda Jiménez, who with her siblings founded the Surikí Nature Reserve on the Gulf of Urabá, posted a video tracing the painting from the fair to the wetlands at the southern end of the gulf.

Thanking him on Instagram as a son of Urabá, she wrote: "Tu obra es espejo de nuestra grandeza" (Your work is a mirror of our greatness), and thanked him for helping, with his paintings, "a reconstruir el relato de nuestra propia valía" (to rebuild the story of our own worth).

Weather over mountains is the subject of two earlier series by Cataño: writing in El Malpensante in September 2024 about his paintings of the peaks El Picacho in Medellín and Monserrate in Bogotá, the historian Daniel Gutiérrez Ardila said he paints the way "la luz, las nubes, la lluvia o la neblina" (light, clouds, rain or mist) interact with the mountains.
